Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

I had read Australian author Liane Moriarty's The Husband's Secret and enjoyed it
so I was eager to read her laetst, Big Little Lies.  It took forever to come in at the library but was worth the wait.

Set in a small seaside town in Australia, the book tells the intertwined stories of the families whose young children attend the same school. Quiet single mom Jane and her son Ziggy are new to town.
When she sees Madeline along the side of the road with a twisted ankle, she stops to help and a friendship is sparked. Madeline has a teenage daughter with her ex (who left when the daughter was a baby and now has a much younger wife and second family).Madeline also  has 2 small children with her second husband. She is great friends with Celeste, the stunningly beautiful mother of twin boys, who seemingly has the perfect marriage.

Everyone in the small town seems to think they know everything about everyone else. But there are plenty of secrets and misconceptions and rumors going around. Ziggy is shunned by some of the mothers for something he may not even have done. Madeline's feelings are hurt when her eldest daughter decides to go live with the father who abandoned her instead of staying with the mother who raised her. Celeste seems to be thinking of leaving her "perfect" marriage, tho she hasn't said anything to any of her friends. And we get hints that someone dies the night of a big school assembly--but we don't find out who (or whodunnit) till the very end.

Is it great literature? No. But it is a good story. And if you're just in the mood for entertaining chick lit, this will fill the bill nicely.
