Close Enough to Touch by Colleen Oakley

Jubilee has a very rare medical condition--she's allergic to people. Even being touched can send her to the hospital--and a long-ago kiss almost killed her. She lives as a recluse for years till her mother dies, and her mother's husband says he won't support her anymore. One day when she reluctantly ventures outside, Jubilee runs into Madison, an old high school frenemy. Madison says she can get her a job at the local library. Once she's out into the world, Jubilee meets Eric and his adopted son Aja.

Eric is only temporarily living in the town for his job, which he doesn't mention to Jubilee, even as their friendship is growing. He has his hands full dealing with his estranged teenage daughter (who lives with his ex) and Aja, who is still grieving his parents' death in a plane crash and has no use for Eric. Eric is drawn to Jubilee, not understanding why she is so standoffish. Aja is also drawn to Jubilee, and the two become fast friends--and she tells him about her medical condition. Can the friendship between Jubilee and Eric turn into a romance? Will Aja ever accept Eric? Will Eric's daughter ever have a relationship with her father? There's a lot going on in this book.

One of my favorite characters is Eric's sister, Connie. She tells him he's always going after unattainable women (including the girl in high school who turned out to be gay) and thinks Jubilee may just be another in a long line. But Connie's always there when he needs help and she does have a funny sibling sense of humor.
