Philadelphia lawyer Mary DiNunzio takes on a case involving a young dyslexic boy accused of attacking a school aide. Ten-year-old Patrick is an orphan being raised by his elderly grandfather, whom he adores. But life isn't easy for him. He's bullied, anxious, and can't read even a simple sentence. Patrick says the teacher's aide attacked him and not the other way around. So Mary sets out to determine what really happened.

The lawyer for the school aide is a sleazeball aptly named Machiavelli and he will do anything to win, no matter how much Patrick gets hurt. Mary, who is supposed to be concentrating on the final planning for her upcoming wedding, is soon drawn completely into the case when things go from bad to worse for Patrick. And she finds that both her life and her wedding may be in jeopardy.
It's an engrossing story.
