Since We Fell by Dennis Lehane
Wow, talk about a book with a lot of twists and turns!
This is an intriguing story that would be a good choice for a book group discussion. Our heroine, Rachel, is not the most sympathetic heroine in the world, though that's not totally her fault. She was raised by a domineering single mother who refused to tell Rachel who her father was. That sets her off on a years-long journey of trying to find her father, with very little to go on. During that journey, Rachel enlists the help of a PI named Brian, who pops up later in the book and plays a big role in her life. A successful TV reporter, Rachel's assignment to cover the devastating earthquake in Haiti totally throws her life off balance and she becomes kind of a recluse. But at least she's happy in her romantic life--until she accidentally finds out all may not be as it seems with her husband. And that's when the roller coaster ride really begins.
I couldn't put it down--stayed up way too late last night to finish it because I couldn't imagine how this story was going to end. If you're new to Dennis Lehane, try one of his earlier equally compelling works such as Gone Baby Gone.
