The Order by Daniel Silva
Gabriel Allon and his family are on a much-deserved vacation in Italy when he gets called in to investigate the death of the pope. It was supposedly a heart attack but Gabriel has his doubts especially when he finds out that one of the last things the pope did was write a letter to Gabriel that has gone missing--as has the Swiss Guard who was on duty that night.
Daniel Silva tells a good story and Gabriel is an interesting character. In this one, Gabriel's wife is looking forward to the day when he can finally retire--which I find hard to believe will ever happen.
