Severe Clear by Stuart Woods

The exclusive new Arrington Hotel is getting read to open its doors. And to commemorate the event, a meeting between the presidents of the U.S. and Mexico is scheduled to take place there, followed by a huge concert attended by all sorts of Hollywood celebs. Miscreants overseas see this is a perfect opportunity to avenge a death and cause a big bang. But never fear, Stone Barrington is on the case. Severe Clear brings back many of the characters from past books in the series--Holly Barker, Felicity from MI-6, Lance Cabot, Stone's newly discovered son Peter, Herb Fisher. This one is set up more like a thriller than the usual Stone story. Will they find the devices in time? Will they figure out who the moles are? Will they realize that there's a double agent in their midst? Stone himself is more of a minor character in this story than usual (though as usual, he does manage to bed 3 different women in 300 pages). And his best friend Dino is barely present. I'm not sure whether S.W. is taking this series in a new direction or just thought it would be fun to write a thriller. In either case, it's an entertaining read.
