Cell 8 by Roslund & Hellstrom

When teenager Elizabeth Finnigan turns up dead, her hot-headed boyfriend John Frey is arrested. Even though there is no real evidence, he is found guilty and sent to death row. Elizabeth's grief-stricken father is obsessed with watching the execution--and is devastated when John dies of a heart condition before he can be executed. Fast forward six years, when another man named John is arrested in Sweden for assault on a man who had been harassing a woman. The Swedish police soon discover that this case is inextricably tied to Elizabeth Finnigan's death. Soon a whole diplomatic war is breaking out. Cell 8 is an engrossing story that makes a very good case for abolishing the death penalty. The twist at the end makes me think this would be a good choice for my book group.
