The Last Heir by Chuck Greaves

A librarian friend recommended that I check out Check Greaves. She said I would like the light-hearted tone of these lawyer-based mysteries, and she was right.

In The Last Heir, lawyer Jack MacTaggert and his team are called in on a case involving a winery in Napa Valley and a missing heir, Philippe Giroux's son (and heir) was thought dead in an avalanche but the body had never turned up. His second son, Phil, is approaching his 40th birthday, when he will be next in line to take over the winery but Phil's wife wants to make all sorts of changes that Philippe doesn't agree with. So he wants Jack to prove that his oldest son is not indeed dead. And then there's the third offspring--the beautiful and enigmatic daughter, Claudia, who works for the winery but doesn't stand a chance of inheriting it. It's a good story with lots of twists and turns--and it's told with a sense of humor--including the appearance of a hot young actor who is following Jack around to "study" how to be a lawyer in an upcoming film--and keeps spouting off suggestions based on his previous roles. All and all, it's an enjoyable read--and I will seek out the rest of the series.
