Food Person by Adam Roberts

Isabella is a food writer working for a digital food magazine called Combustibles. One morning, she goes into her boss's office to offer her some homemade cookies and the boss tells her she has to do a live cooking demonstration on how to make a souffle. Isabella is a fabulous cook but her nerves get the better of her and it's a disaster, which leads to her getting fired. She ends up getting hired to ghostwrite a cookbook for a tempermental actress named Molly Babcock, who really doesn't know much about cooking. What could go wrong--pretty much everything.

Isabella is worried about her career. Her roommate Owen (who helped get her the ghostwriter gig) is pressuring her. Molly is showing Jeckyl and Hyde tendencies. And Isabella's mother seems to be becoming a hoarder. It's a lot to deal with for our poor heroine. Will she ever write her own cookbook? Find true love? Be able to afford the rent in NYC? You'll have to read the book to find out, but you will enjoy the experience.

The descriptions of food in this book will make your mouth water (except when Isabella's mother is "cooking.")
