Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith

Career is the latest in the entertaining series featuring injured military vet/now PI Cormoran Strike and his trusty sidekick, Robin. I love the relationship between Strike and Robin, who are friends and colleagues--but the thought has crossed both of their minds that there possibly could be more.
Their relationship is actually what keeps bringing me back to this series. And it's a good thing I like the 2 of them because this was one dark, violent novel. The villain is a man who loves to knife women then cut off body parts as mementoes. And there are a lot of pages devoted to the gruesome thoughts going through his twisted mind.

Strike is convinced that the killer is one of three men, all of whom hate him and would love to ruin his life. He has a hard time convincing the police to take these 3 suspects seriously so he and Robin start their own investigation--not realizing that the killer has Robin in his sights. At the same time, Robin's shaky engagement to Matthew, who is not happy with her job or her friendship with Strike, gets even shakier as the wedding approaches. Wondering if they'll catch the killer (before he hurts Robin)--and if the wedding will ever take place--really keep you turning the pages. Though it's a long book (around 485 pages), I finished it in a couple of days. Can't wait to see what happens next.
