The Comfort Food Diaries by Emily Nunn

Nunn was a food and restaurant writer who had moved from New York to Chicago and life seemed good. Then in short order, she lost her job, her brother committed suicide, and her fiance was less than supportive, resulting in her being kicked out of the apartment they shared and going into a treatment facility. She then began a journey to heal and regain her balance. And much of that journey revolves around food.

A lot of the story is about her dysfunctional family, which does not provide much support during her time of need. But her friends are up to the challenge and they help set her on a more positive path. Along the way, she enjoys the foods they offer, cooks up a storms, and even provides recipes for the reader.
