Field of Bones by JA Jance

I hadn't read a Joanna Brady novel in a while, so was pleased to find this one at the library. It is kind of a gruesome tale--about a man who kidnaps young women and holds them as sex slaves until he kills them. The story alternates between Joanna and her team trying to find him (and hopefully any victims who might still be alive) and Latisha, who is one of the young women being held.

Joanna is on maternity leave, though everyone who knows her realizes she will never make it through her entire scheduled leave before heading back to work--which is exactly what happens. I like Joanna's family--husband Butch (a writer who is on a book tour for much of this book), her in laws, her kids. But there's less emphasis on them in this book than in other books. It's mostly about the case. It's a good--though very dark--story.
