Good Night From London by Jennifer Robson

Good Night tells the story of a plucky American orphan named Ruby who becomes a writer for weekly magazine in NYC then gets sent to London just before the Blitz (in World War II). On her first day in England she meets a handsome British soldier named Bennett who keeps popping up when she needs a helping hand. Ruby has her secrets and Bennett has his but the two can't help being drawn to each other. And you hope they both survive the war so they can finally be together.

In notes at the end, Robson said she got the idea for the book from her grandmother's life. Her grandmother was a reporter in Vancouver at a time when women reporters were mostly relegated to the "women's pages." But because most of the male reporters were off fighting the war, she got to cover beats she never would have been able to in normal times.

The wind chill here today was 20 below zero. Good Night London and a hot cup of tea were an excellent way to while away the afternoon.
