No Fixed Line by Dana Stabenow

Line is the newest in the excellent Kate Shugak series set in Alaska. Kate is a small but mighty PI who lives with her boyfriend Jim, an ex-state trooper, and her half wolf, Mutt. The story starts with a small plane crashing during a blizzard. The only survivors are two traumatized children who speak only Spanish. And there is evidence that the plane was part of a drug operation. At the same time, Kate is named trustee of her arch enemy's estate--which she is sure is a trap set to destroy her. Rather than just turning it down, she decides to investigate, which uncovers many cans of worms and gets Kate shot at several times. Or, as Jim would say, just a typical week for Kate. I do love Kate and Jim along with the many colorful supporting characters in this series. And I have learned quite a bit about Alaska along the way. Good choice for burrowing in on a winter weekend.
