Chateau Rock by Martin Walker

Chateau Rock is the latest in the charming Bruno Chief of Police series set in a small town in France that I would love to visit if it were real.

Chateau Rock is the name of the palatial country home of a former rock star. Bruno goes to the chateau to catch up with the rock star's visiting (now grown) children--Kristy and Jamie--and to meet Jamie's Ukranian girlfriend, Galina. Galina has brought her "cousin Sasha"--who, to Bruno's eyes, looks like her bodyguard. Then Bruno finds out her wealthy father has ties to Putin. When an old sheep farmer dies right after disinheriting his kids to move into a ritzy retirement community, there is once again a Ukrainian connection. And Bruno begins to wonder if this is all a coincidence or if something nefarious is going on.

At the same time, there are plenty of festive dinner parties, Bruno's beloved basset hound may soon become a father, and Bruno's beloved Isabelle pops in and out of his life. I still keep hoping that Bruno will find true love with someone else since he and Isabelle don't seem to have a future. Perfect summer read.

  1. Start this series with the first book, Bruno Chief of Police. The whole series is delightful. And I agree: Bruno should give up on Isabelle; Florence looks like the perfect candidate to be Mrs. Bruno.
