The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

This is a charming tale about a group of seniors in a retirement community who keep their wits sharp by trying to solve cold-case murders. Then a real murder happens in their midst and they put their skills to good use. They are an appealing bunch, led by Elizabeth (who seems to have had a very interesting past), Joyce a former nurse, and Ibrahim, a former psychiatrist. They cajole their way into the good graces of the two local cops assigned to the murder case (Chris and Donna) with baked goods and flattery so that they can participate in solving the murder of a local developer.

It was especially heart-warming to see how devoted the long-married couples in the group were to their spouses, past and present.
