Hissy Fit by Mary Kay Andrews

It's the night of the rehearsal dinner for her wedding when interior designer Keeley comes upon her fiance AJ in a compromising position with her now former best friend Paige. Keeley pitches a huge hissy fit and starts walking home in her bare feet. Will Mahoney, new in town, witnesses the hissy and offers her a ride home. Shortly afterward, he tries to hire her firm to oversee the renovation of a huge former plantation house he bought called Mulberry Hill. She has no interest in working for him, but AJ's family has decided to destroy her company for embarrassing them, so she says yes to Will. Then she finds out that Will is only doing Mulberry Hill to win over a beautiful lawyer named Stephanie--whom he saw on TV briefly and decided she was the girl for him. At the same time, Keeley is trying to figure out what happened to her mother, who vanished 25 years earlier.

AJ keeps trying to win Keeley back. Everyone keeps telling her Will is a good guy, though she has no interest. And the more she gets to know Stephanie, the more she thinks Will is crazy for pursuing her. It's an interesting combination of fluffy chick lit (the Keely/Will/AJ/Stephanie plot) and serious (the mother's disappearance story and Will's attempts to save the town by trying to resurrect the town's main industry).
