Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas

This is sort of a gender-bender version of Sherlock Holmes with the main character Charlotte Holmes and Dr. Watson replaced by Mrs. Watson. It took a long time establish the premise--that Charlotte is pretending to be Sherlock because she thinks no one will take a woman detective seriously. But once the premise was established and the story got rolling, I enjoyed it.

The main plot involves a wealthy bachelor, much beloved by his servants, who suddenly dies. Everyone thinks it was an accident but Holmes is convinced it is murder and it may be related to 2 other recent--and suspicious--deaths of seemingly healthy people. Charlotte, with the help of her friend Lord Ingram and police inspector Treadles, tackles the case and manages to unravel all three mysteries.

This is part of a series. I'm interested in seeing how this plays out.
