North Woods by Daniel Mason

I'm not sure whether I can recommend North Woods. It's an interesting concept--following the lives of all the people who lived in a house in the north woods of Massachusetts, starting in the 1600s. Some of the inhabitants lives' are barely touched on while others have many (in some cases too many) pages devoted to them. The writing is beautiful but it's a little choppy to read as we switch from life to life. And after a while I will admit that I started skimming through the passages describing the ferns and bug life.

I read the Piano Tuner by the same author and think I liked that better.
