Stand Down by JA Jance
Stand Down is a novella (if that) featuring JP Beaumont, the former Seattle homicide investigator.
This book is so short it can be read in an hour and involves JP's segue into becoming a cold case investigator.
I'm not sure why Jance didn't turn this story into a real novel. I like the Beaumont character and his cop wife Mel and wish there were more books in this series. I had inadvertently read the follow-up book, Dance of the Bones, before this and wasn't crazy about it because the first half focused on Brandon Walker (from a Jance series I don't read) before the case ended up with Beaumont in Seattle. I hope she goes back to doing regular JP Beaumont novels instead of lopping them onto her existing series.
