The Prisoner by Alex Berenson
The Prisoner sees ex-CIA agent John Wells back where he started--going undercover in the Middle East to uncover a potential terrorist plot--also to try to uncover a mole within the CIA.
This time around, John is older, has less of a support system in place (mostly his former boss, Ellis), and has a lot more to lose, in the form of his adorable daughter, Emmie.
We see the plot developing from the terrorists' perspective and we see John and Ellis try to figure out exactly what they're up to before it's too late. And when they do figure it out, they have to convince someone in power that they know what they're talking about. It's quite the nail-biter.
If you're new to this excellent series, start at the beginning with The Faithful Spy.
