W is for Wasted by Sue Grafton

It's always good to check back in with intrepid PI Kinsey Milhonne. And it's always fascinating to watch her solve crimes (back in the 80s) without cell phones, computers and all the latest technology, just good old-fashioned footwork and perseverance.

In "W" the plot keeps bouncing between 2 cases. Kinsey is dealing with a homeless man who is found dead on the beach--with her name in his pocket. She also discovers that shady PI Pete Wolinsky has been murdered. The second plot is flashbacks showing the case Pete was working on when he died, which eventually ties into Kinsey's homeless man case.

Kinsey grew up as an orphan. But in the last few books, she has discovered that she does have family floating around--a discovery that doesn't always make her happy. She's an interesting character and I can't wait to see what her "X" adventure brings.
