The Purity of Vengeance by Jussi Adler-Olsen

After I read the first "Dept Q" novel by Jussi Adler-Olsen, I was eager to read another. The newest one happened to be available at the library, so I grabbed it. It's funny when you miss several books in the middle of a series. Between the first one and this new one, our main character, Danish cop Carl, has acquired another assistant (Rose), acquired a new roommate (the partner who got paralyzed in the first book), and gotten involved in a relationship with a woman he was just pining after in book one.  I must find out how this all happened! And the ambush that paralyzed his partner is still under investigation, though the investigation is going in an unexpected direction.

The main plot in this book is a lot darker than in the first novel, though. It focuses on forced sterilizations and abortions in Denmark.  It's all very grim. But our hero and his unconventional team doggedly pursue the truth. It's a good story and there are touches of humor, but it's still kind of depressing to read about rapes and forced abortions and people being unjustly confined to mental hospitals. I hope the other books in the series are more like the first one.
