A Few of the Girls by Maeve Binchey

Maeve Binchey passed away in 2012 but her work still keeps appearing. A Few of the Girls is a collection of short stories she wrote about women. One wonders if they were ideas she had jotted down for future novels that she never had time to write.

Some of the stories are charming. Sandra's Suitcase relates the adventures of a fashion plate who loses her luggage on the first day of a European bus tour. Some are touching. The Dream Holiday introduces us to 4 good friends who find real life keeps trying to get in the way of their plans for a trip to Greece together. Some are sad. The Custardy Case is told from the perspective of a little boy who doesn't realize how his parents' break-up will impact his future. I thought there were too many "husbands betraying wives" stories, but all in all I enjoyed the book.
