Falling by Jane Green

Emma grew up on the family estate in the English countryside but fled to America as soon as she could. She spent several years as a high-powered  NY banker, working long hours in designer suits. But she's ready for a quieter life. So she moves to Connecticut, near her friend Sophie, where she rents a cottage with potential from a dreamy bartender named Dominic, who, she soon finds out, lives right next door with his adorable young son, Jesse. Soon Emma and Dominic are majorly smitten. Jesse is not thrilled. Emma's mum thinks their backgrounds are too different. And then Jesse's
long-MIA mother shows up.

I foresaw some of the twists and turns but not all, so it was a good story. And Emma is a likeable heroine, so you wish her well. Good beach book even though the waning days of summer have mostly waned away.
