The Whistler by John Grisham

John Grisham always tells a fine tale and The Whistler is no exception.

Lacy and Hugo are investigators for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. One day, they're contacted by a disbarred lawyer named "Greg" who says he is working with a whistleblower (the whistler of the title) who has uncovered an extremely corrupt sitting judge. Turns out that neither Greg's nor the whistleblower's motives are completely altruistic--they want the huge reward that will come from turning in the judge. Nonetheless, the info that Greg provides does turn out to be true, so Lacy and Hugo take on the case--which draws them into a web of corruption in the state way beyond anything they had imagined.

If you need a break from the holiday shopping,  The Whistler is a good distraction.
