Little White Lies by Ace Atkins

Little White Lies is the new "Spenser" novel, a series now in the capable hands of Ace Atkins since
Robert Parker's passing in 2010. Atkins has been more successful than some of the other Parker successors in maintaining the spirit and tone of the series.

Spenser's long-time love, Susan, sends one of her patients to Spenser to help find her missing lover--who absconded with almost $300,000 of her money. The missing boyfriend, M Brooks Welles, is supposedly an ex-CIA agent with a long military history and a Harvard degree, but Spenser can't find any proof of that. What does turn up is Welles' involvement in a gun-selling ring with ties to a church near Atlanta. So part of the story is set in Georgia, where Hawk and Tedy Sapp (from a previous book) lend a hand. Truthfully, I liked the parts of the story in Boston more than the parts in Georgia, though it was good to see Tedy again.

Even though he stays in good shape, one really wonders how long Spenser can keep getting beat up and shot at. But for the moment he seems up to the challenges that come his way. If you're a fan of the series, you'll like the latest installment.
