The Fix by David Baldacci

Amos Decker got hit in the head hard while playing football and his life was never the same. The impact seemed to rewire his brain so that he could remember literally everything. Decker is now working with the FBI and putting his unique skills to good use.

One day he is walking by the FBI headquarters building in Washington DC when he sees a businessman walk up to a woman he doesn't appear to know and shoot her in the head. He then proceeds to shoot himself. Decker and his team are assigned to figure out who these people were and why this happened. And it proves to be quite a challenge. The man is easily identified as the owner of a successful consulting company that works with the government. But the woman turns out to be more of a mystery. She is supposedly a substitute teacher yet lives in a million-dollar home. And as the team gathers more clues, they realize that something nefarious and dangerous is afoot.

This is the 3rd in a series that starts with Memory Man. It's a good stand-alone, but you might want to start at the beginning if you're new to the series. An excellent choice for a summer read.
