Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

I don't know what to make of this book. It's definitely a quick read--I finished it in 2 days. But parts of the plot are a little preposterous. The plot revolves around a young girl named Kya who is abandoned by her family and pretty much raises herself while living alone in a ramshackle house in the marshes of N. Carolina. As one reviewer noted: She never gets sick. The house never needs repairs. The father's beat-up boat keeps running. (And she manages to find a way to support herself and buy food and supplies.) It did seem a tad unrealistic, no matter how feisty and independent she was. Anyway, eventually there is a murder mystery that Kya's at the center of, which takes up the second half of the book.

My book group is discussing this book next week. I'm dying to know what everyone else thought.
It's been at the top of the NY Times best-seller list for ages. So clearly this book has many fans. And the author does write about nature beautifully.
