Big Sky by Kate Atkinson

Big Sky is the long-awaited new Jackson Brodie novel and it packs quite the punch.
I'll admit that the beginning of this book is very confusing. As usual, Atkinson lobs multiple story lines out there--but also as usual, she manages to tie them all together by the end.

Jackson's daughter, Marlee, is due to get married any day, a wedding Jackson is not totally in favor of. Jackson's teenage son with his ex-girlfriend Julia is living with him part-time in a seaside village. And Jackson is working as a private investigator, following a lot of cheating spouses around. One day he sees a young girl with a unicorn backpack get into a stranger's car--which sets off alarms in Jackson's head.  He tries to follow up on that but then gets hired by a beautiful woman named Crystal to find out who's been following her. That throws Jackson into an unexpected swamp of depravity--and back into the path of policewoman Reggie Chase--who once saved Jackson's life. And of course the mysterious Tatiana is still floating around the periphery of Jackson's life. Can't wait to see what happens next--and I hope the wait isn't as long this time around.
