Summer of '69 by Elin Hilderbrand

Elin Hilderbrand herself was born in the summer of 1969--a tumultuous time in America. The Vietnam War was going on and protests were rampant. It was the summer of the moon landing, Woodstock, and Ted Kennedy's trip to Chappaquiddick. In the middle of all this, we find the extended Nichols/Wilder/Levin clan. The family normally spends the summer at their grandmother's house on Nantucket. But not this year. Older sister Blair is pregnant with twins at her home. Middle sister Blair decides to find a job on Martha's Vineyard, and brother Tiger is off in Vietnam. So Jessie, the baby of the family, is stuck with her very strict grandmother and her anxiety-laden mother for the summer. And quite the summer it turns out to be for the family.
