(movie review) Brittany Runs a Marathon

Jillian Bell is excellent as 20-something Brittany, who moved from Philly to NYC only to see her life slide into a rut of partying, a no-future job, and significant weight gain. She goes to a doctor who is advertised on Yelp as "good and affordable" in hopes of scoring some Adderall pills.  But the doctor tells her she has got to lose 50 pounds to get her blood pressure down and improve her health because he is genuinely worried about her. She pooh-poohs his advice  then decides to start walking "a block at a time." With the encouragement of a neighbor who runs every day, Brittany gets into running and makes some new health-focused friends--but her new lifestyle does not go over well with her hard-partying friends. Brittany eventually decides she wants to run in the NYC marathon and convinces her 2 running buddies to train with her. There is also a subplot about her relationship with a man-child millennial she meets while dog sitting to earn enough money for the marathon's entrance fee. The movie is based on a true story and is inspirational. (I did think Brittany might have benefited from some counseling along the way as she had a lot of self-esteem issues, but she does manage to get her life on a better path through hard work and perseverance.)
