The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri

This a beautifully written story about a Syrian beekeeper (Nuri) and his blind wife (Afra) who have to flee war-torn Aleppo or be killed. Their goal is to reach England, where Nuri's best friend--and fellow beekeeper--Mustafa, has managed to find refuge. The book tells the story of their arduous journey --with only the hope of seeing Mustafa again and becoming a beekeeper once more to keep Nuri and his beloved Afra going. A heartbreaking story with memorable characters and beautiful descriptions of life in Syria before the war.

The author said she was inspired to write this story after working as a volunteer at a UNICEF-supported refugee center in Athens.
