Hello, Summer by Mary Kay Andrews

I'm relatively new to Mary Kay Andrews but she does tell a good story. Hello, Summer relates how Atlanta newspaper journalist Conley finds out--at her going-away part to start a new job in DC--that the company she's heading to has gone bust, as has her new job. And she's already been replaced at her Atlanta job. So she heads home to see her grandmother in a small town in Florida, hoping to lick her wounds and send out some job feelers.

Her estranged sister is running the small family newspaper, which is barely hanging on.  Conley's grandma wants Conley to help her out, which she reluctantly does. Imagine her surprise when her sleepy little hometown becomes a hotbed of news with the death in a car crash of the long-time Congressman. The more stones she turns over, the bigger the story becomes--attracting national attention and hopes of a big-time new job. But suddenly she's not so sure she wants to leave.

Conley's grandmother and her caregiver, Winnie, are real characters. Skelly, the boy next door, is a good potential love interest. And there are plenty of twists and turns in the Congressman's story to keep things moving right along. Good weekend read.
