Sisters of Mokama by Jyoti Thottam

This is a fascinating tome about a group of Catholic nuns from Kentucky who set off for a poor and  dangerous part of India in the 1940s to open a hospital and nursing school. This group of intrepid women had no idea what they were getting into, but they did indeed manage to set up a hospital and start a nursing school that trained countless Indian women, giving them a chance at an independent life.

The author is the daughter of one of those nurses trained by the nuns in Bihar.
