A Chateau Under Siege by Martin Walker

This is the latest Bruno Chief of Police adventure. During a historical reenactment, a wealthy participant is stabbed and taken to a nearby hospital. But was it an accident or attempted murder? Fabiola, Bruno's physician friend, is puzzled by the way the man was treated by his attending physician. Bruno, in charge of keeping the man's grown daughters safe, is puzzled by their lack of anxiety over their beloved father's condition. Bruno also wonders what the man's group of equally wealthy cyber-savvy friends are doing during their secret meetings in the chateau of the title (where the group is staying). It's kind of a convoluted plot but Bruno, through his good old-fashioned police work and observation skills, manages to pull it all together and save the day once more.

A subplot involves most of the town banding together to convince Bruno to marry school teacher, Florence. I have to say, I like Florence, but that story line kind of irked me. Bruno is a grown man and has the right to pick his own wife.

As usual, there are plenty of delicious meals prepared throughout the course of the book. Like Bruno's friends, I would love to be invited to dinner at his house.
