The Exchange by John Grisham

 The Exchange picks up the lives of Mitch and Abby from The Firm, 15 years later. Mitch is now a bigwig at a huge NYC law firm and Abby edits cookbooks. They have 2 young sons. As part of a case he's working on, Mitch has to go to Libya. One of the firm's associates, Giovanna (daughter of his friend Luca) accompanies him. The night before their meeting, Mitch gets deathly ill with either food poisoning or real poisoning and Giovanna gets kidnapped. And so begins a cat-and-mouse game as Mitch tries to get her back alive while desperately trying to raise the money demanded for her ransom--and he's not even sure who's holding her hostage. As always, John Grisham knows how to tell a good story--and it's nice to check back in with Mitch and Abby after all this time.
