The Leftover Woman by Jean Kwok

Jasmine is a child bride in China, married to an older man who doesn't treat her particularly well. After she gives birth to their daughter, he tells her the baby died. She is heartbroken. Later, while snooping around on his computer to find out if he's seeing someone else, she finds paperwork saying that their daughter indeed survived and was adopted by a friend of her husband's who lives in America. She is furious and determined to get her daughter back, which involves faking her death and paying smugglers to get her to America, then finding a job to pay the smugglers back before she can take her daughter away. But when she gets to America, she realizes that her daughter is happy with her American parents, Rebecca and Brandon. The story flips back and forth between Jasmine's and Rebecca's lives, two mothers who love the same child. And it has a very exciting ending when everything comes to a head.
