Mrs Quinn's Rise to Fame by Olivia Ford
This is a heartwarming story about a woman in her late 70s who wants to make her mark in life before it's too late. Jenny Quinn loves to bake. So she decides to send in an application for the Britain Bakes TV show--and is stunned when she is actually chosen. Each recipe she chooses is tied to her past--and through the recipes, we learn her story. We also learn how something that happened when she was a teenager shaped the rest of her life.
I loved her fellow contestant, Azeez, who helps her recover from a mishap during the audition then becomes her friend as they support each other through the stresses of the competition. And I especially loved Jenny's husband, Bernard, who is still crazy in love with his wife after 60 years.
