Those of you who loved Kane & Abel a million years ago will love Only Time Will Tell, the first volume in the new Clifton Family Chronicles by Jeffrey Archer.
The main character is Harry Clifton, whose father was either a hardworking dockworker (who mysteriously disappeared)--or a member of a wealthy shipping family. If the latter, he is legally the heir to the family's huge fortune, which makes him a threat.
Harry's mother, Maisie, is determined to ensure that her son has a better life than she had--and his rich "possible father" is just as determined to thwart her efforts.
The story is told from several different perspectives. And each narrator adds a little more detail to what we've already learned.
The book ends just as World War II is breaking out in Europe. There's a great cliffhanger so you'll be sure to want to dive into volume 2 as soon as it's available.
