Black Diamond by Martin Walker

Black Diamond is the latest in the charming "Bruno Courreges" series. Bruno is the only policeman in a small town in the Perigord region of France. He handles all the routine duties of a small-town cop anywhere--but also seems to keep getting involved in cases of a national (or even international) nature. In this installment, Bruno discovers possible fraud going on in the truffle market--which leads to his involvement in a Chinese/Vietnamese turf war. As always, the dashing Bruno has plenty of romantic entanglements to deal with too. He still loves Isabelle, who wanted him to move to Paris and join the national security team. His relationship with Englishwoman Pamela is on the rocks--and now young mother Florence has entered the picture. I can't wait to come back to this delightful little corner of the world to see what happens next.
