Night Watch by Linda Fairstein

Night Watch is the latest in the always lively "Alexandra Cooper" series. The story opens with Alex in France with her new love, celebrated restauranteur Luc. All is well until the body of a woman who once worked for Luc turns up. Then a waiter who was supposed to work for Luc in his new restaurant in NYC turns up dead. Alex is beginning to wonder just how well she knows the new man in her life. She is suddenly called back to work (as a lawyer in the sex crimes division of the NYC District Attorney's office) because a Guatemalan maid claims she was raped by the wealthy head of the World Economic Bureau (in a case reminiscent of the Dominic Strauss Kahn case). Soon, Alex is worried about her boyfriend, her case, and her career. One of my favorite parts of this series is learning about the history of New York. In Night Watch, the focus is on some of the city's famous restaurants (like Lutece and 21).
