The Keeper by John Lescroart

The night before Thanksgiving, jail guard Hal goes to pick up his brother at the airport. When he comes home, his wife, Katie, has vanished. Hal becomes the prime suspect, though he swears he didn't do it.
Dismas Hardy becomes his lawyer and he hires newly retired cop Abe Glitsky as his investigator.
That investigation opens up a whole can of worms about corruption at the jail, which may or may not be related to Katie's disappearance.

As you may have surmised, The Keeper is the latest in the popular Dismas Hardy series, though Diz is not the main character, his best friend Abe is. And Abe is still trying to adjust to his forced retirement (in the previous book). As always, it's a good story well told--and I can't wait to see what Diz and Abe are up to next.
