Charlie Mike by Joe Klein

What do you do when you come home from war and you want to keep serving your country?
Eric Greitens decided to establish The Mission Continues, which employs military vets to do good works. One of the group's first  projects is assisting in Haiti after the devastating earthquake. Another is helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy. But some members of the group work on smaller projects, like using horses to help vets dealing with PTSD or training service dogs.

We meet some of the vets involved in The Mission Continues and learn their stories. Jake Wood leads the team on the Haiti mission. Feisty Marine Natasha Young becomes a recruiter for the group. Mike Weber was dying of cancer but still striving to be a full-fledged member of The Mission.

The book is both inspirational and heartbreaking. Some of the vets can't adjust to civilian life and take their own lives, leaving devastated family and friends behind. But others are heartened by the opportunity to continue to serve.
