The Woman Who Stole My Life by Marian Keyes

Stella is a housewife/hairdresser in Ireland, leading a normal life with a self-absorbed husband and 2 kids when she contracts Guillan-Barre Syndrome. Suddenly, she can't move anything but her eyelids. And the only one who can communicate with her, blink by blink, is dashing neurologist Mannix Taylor.  After she finally recovers, she finds out that Mannix has used his notes about her illness to compile a book featuring Stella's words of wisdom. Through a fluke of fate, the book leads to a publishing contract and a life in NYC. And that's where the wheels start coming off the bus for poor Stella.

The story bounces between Stella's post-New York years and the events that led up to her New York years. So you have to pay attention to the typeface, which is how Keyes differentiates the time periods. Stella is a likeable character who manages to keep going despite quite a few significant setbacks. So you're really cheering her on and hoping she finds true love and happiness.
It's a good book for a summer vacation.
