From the Corner of the Oval by Beck Dorey-Stein

Beck Dorey-Stein was a teacher who was struggling to make ends meet on part-time jobs in Washington DC when she answered an ad on Craigslist that turned out to be for a stenographer in the Obama White House. She spent 5 years traveling around the country and the world with the Obama team watching history unfold. She relates her experiences behind the scenes in fascinating--and often very funny--detail. She also relates her tumultuous romantic life during that time. And at certain points I wanted to clunk her upside the head for the relationship decisions she was making (which often seemed fueled by alcohol). Ironically, there's no word at the end of the book of what she's up to currently--either job-wise or romantically.

I would recommend the book just for the unique behind-the-scenes perspective of working at the White House. I wish she had spent fewer pages detailing her "romance" with Jason the Jerk (whose appeal escapes me since he was cheating not only on her but on his girlfriend in California). Dorey-Stein is definitely a talented writer and it will be interesting to see what she comes out with next.
