Bleak Harbor by Bryan Gruley

I loved the Starvation Lake series by Bryan Gruley, set in a fictional town in Michigan. So I was thrilled to discover that he had a new book out. Bleak Harbor is a stand-alone novel set in another fictional Michigan town. And it's quite the page-turner.

Autistic teenager Danny has moved to Bleak Harbor with his mother Carey and stepfather Pete. And no one is really happy to be there. Carey is commuting to her old job in Chicago where she works for a boss she despises. After his career as a Chicago trader floundered, Pete is now running a medical marijuana dispensary, which is also floundering and he has inadvertently gotten in way over his head with his marijuana supplier. One day, Danny disappears. Both of his parents wonder if the secrets they've been keeping from each other might be the reason for his disappearance. Throw in a mysterious man named Quartz, two obsessed FBI agents, and a grief-stricken local cop, and you've got quite the thriller. Couldn't put it down. I hope we don't have to wait as long for Bryan Gruley's next book.
