Waiting for Eden by Elliot Ackerman

The guy who writes a weekly column in our newspaper book section highly recommended Waiting for Eden, so I sought it out. And it was definitely worth reading. Eden is a soldier who is severely injured by an explosive device. Miraculously, he survives the blast (which kills his best friend), but he is badly burned and missing a large portion of his body. He ends up back in a U.S. military hospital, with his wife Mary by his side day after day after day. As he is lying in the bed, his buddy who got killed by the bomb blast is narrating the story of Eden and Mary's relationship--and his and Eden's friendship.  And as the story unfolds, we find that all is not as it originally seemed. The last page is guaranteed to bring a tear to your eye.

If you didn't have it before, this book will give you a whole new appreciation for the military and their families and the sacrifices they make.
