Anneliese by David R Gillham

The intriguing premise of Anneliese is that Anne Frank survived life in a concentration camp and returned to Amsterdam. It's a sad book. The Anne in the now classic Diary of a Young Girl is so optimistic and hopeful while the Anne in this book is bitter and angry--and determined to figure out who betrayed her family (which is understandable).

The author starts by showing us Anne's carefree life before the family had to go into hiding, then briefly touches on life in hiding. A lot of the story is flashbacks of life once the family has been found by the Gestapo and shipped off to the camps. The author said he did extensive research on the family and life in Amsterdam at the time and that is obvious. It is a thought-provoking read.
