Past Tense by Lee Child

Past Tense is the newest in the Jack Reacher series. Reacher, a former Army MP, decides to go visit a small town in New Hampshire that his father ran away from as a teen. But when Reacher gets there, he finds many inconsistencies in the story his father told him, which just makes him even more curious. At the same time, a young Canadian couple finds themselves at a very odd motel in the woods when their car breaks down in New Hampshire. The owners of the motel have a nefarious plan in mind for them. Eventually, their paths and Reacher's path cross, which turns out to be a good thing for them.

I like this series, though there is an awful lot of violence. It seems to me that in the earlier books, Reacher used his wits more than his fists to solve problems, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.
